Provo Quilter

This was a fun quilt. It was for a lady in Provo who had already bound the outside edge. My first! I did the 'frame' quilting around each of the three border pieces of each picture. Then, I did a scroll down each side and across the top, joining each section. Was I nervous? Yup, sure was. It took me longer than planned, but it turned out really nice, I thought. Also, the girl was happy with it, and what a great way to cherish your wedding pictures!!

Dianne's "Mother" Quilt

This quilt was a very sacred quilt that I made. A very dear friend of ours called and asked me to help her with something very special for her mother. She was in the last stages of a terminal illness. She wanted me to make a quilt for her casket. Rather than a lot of flowers, they had decided they wanted to cover her with a blanket before they closed the casket, as that is what they had done for the last four or five years while caring for her in their homes. I truly felt honored to make this for them.

This one is a big heart, with the words "Thank you Mother"
in the center of the heart.
It was in the center of the blanket as well.

If you look carefully, you can see the four children in order,
girl, boy, girl, boy. They went across the top and bottom of the
quilt, above and below the large heart.

In each of the four corners of the quilt, we put this house with a
small heart filling it. Dianne's mom had favorite sayings that
she used with them, and the sayings filled the heart centers.

Here is a sideways view of the full quilt. Tilt your head to the left and you can get a glimpse of what it turned out like. Just looking at it reminds me of the sacred nature of being asked to do something this special. Thank you Dianne and Richard!
What great examples of Christlike family love you taught me!!

Kyle & Christy's Quilt

A fun thing I've started doing is making quilts for my kids from bed sheets. They've turned out really fun and are so easy to do. Here is the first one that we did for Kyle & Christy. They simply buy two sets of sheets, give me the flats and they keep the fitted and pillowcases. This way, it's cheaper than fabrics and gives them two sets of sheets to trade off with. It's pretty "European" as in those countries they only use a bottom sheet and a 'sleeved' set of sheets with the blanket inside, thus cutting down on the laundering of the blankets. Pretty cool, huh?

Jayne's Gramma Quilt

So little Jayne Emmaline came in October, and this is the sweet quilt that she got. Can I just tell you how much fun I have making these for each little new one? It seems to be the perfect size to put over the car seat, or over the boppy when they're sitting in it. Thanks, kids, for having the grandkids so I can sew another quilt!!

Debbie's Athlete's Quilt

Here's Deb's second quilt that she did. Awesome, huh!! This one was also donated to Festival of Trees. What a great job!!

Debbie's 'Cars' Quilt

So my friend Debbie has been wanting to learn to piece quilt. I decided to let her put some together and gave her a small "lesson" and set her on her own. Here is the first finished product. She donated the quilt to Festival of Trees and Primary Children's Medical Center fund raiser!

Deb's & Glenn's Quilts for Newborns

So I have two friends, one in Illinois and the other in Minnesota, who added two new babies to their families this year. Deb welcomed a new granddaughter, and Glenn a new great niece. My daughter had finished a couple of quilts and had some extra 'blocks' so I put them together for little quilts, added the backs, changed the quilting on both of them and walla! Many hands make light work. I heard back from both of the new mamas and they loved them!! Thanks Rochelle for sharing your overage and helping more than yourself!!

Ilene's Pillow Shams

I made some fun quilts a couple of years ago for Ilene. She had the leftover material, and asked me to make her some pillow shams for her bed as well. Here is the final product! Thanks, Ilene!!

Quilt for Tom/Bette's 1st Great Granddaughter

Our dear friends and adopted grandparents were "expecting" their first great granddaughter. They have been such wonderful friends to us, that we decided to make them a quilt for her. Here is the finished product! Thanks Tom & Bette!!

Finally! Pictures of quilts since September!!!!!

So, many of you think I've dropped off the face of the earth as far as posting pictures of the quilts. I'm so sorry, but with how busy things have been, as well as five/six teenagers, it's been a crazy end of the year. Natalie went off to college at BYU, Marta got her YW medallion and started hair design school at MATC as well as a junior in high school, Nate got his Eagle Scout award and joined Marta at the new high school (SHHS), Anita just returned home from her stent in foster care and lots and lots of therapy sessions, Jake returned home from USH and then got his Eagle Scout award, and Lydia started junior high and all the changes there. It has been an amazing growth time for our family.

I am currently in Ohio and one of my goals was to spend time on here updating the pictures of the many, many quilts that you creative ladies have made and had me help quilt. Thanks for your patience...but check back soon!!! I promise it will happen!!!

New Quilts

So I've been busy the past few days creating a few new quilts. Seems I've had some people show some interest in having me do the sewing AND the quilting. I have absolutely LOVED it!!! Thanks for letting me help you with your quilting needs. Watch for updates soon. Two more coming off "the press"......

Well, actually......

.....Chelle helped me make an 'at home family' blog after all. Simply click on the picture to the right with the 'unmarried kids' in it with Kim and I, and it will take you to a personal blog for just us! Bear in mind, there just MAY be a few grandkid pictures in there as well! The title of that blog is..... cheaperbythedozens2008.blogspot.com. Enjoy!!!

Craziness....

So today I was thinking about sewing, or finishing the quilt on the machine, or finishing the humanitarian things I'm cutting out for the ward....and then I looked at the family's blogs. Gosh (I thought), I wish I had time to put together a blog and share some of the things that are going on here at home. Well, duh! I finally figured out how to post on THIS blog, so I thought.....why don't I put an occasional "home front" update just right on here?!?!

For those of you who just want to see the quilts, just skip over these family updates, but otherwise, I'll just update a few things here and there. No sense for extra blogs for this family, donchathink? Anyway, we're down to three kids at home right now. Crazy, huh? Actually, it's weird.

Natalie headed off to Provo/BYU and her new apartment this week; Jake's still at the hospital; and Anita's in her new structured home. All are doing well, and are making good progress. Marta and Nate both started H.S. at the new Salem Hills High School in our back yard. They LOVE it!! and Lydia moved from the elementary to the junior high...even getting to ride the bus to school for the first time!! Weird after 27 years of having grade schoolers, to NOT have that school to visit this year. (Actually, it's really nice!)

So, that's the update from here. Tonight is the first h.s. football game in our backyard. We are psyched!!

Angels continue to surround us and help us through life's struggles. I'm grateful for all of you who hold us up on a regular basis. We are very blessed. Thank you!!

Jayne's quilt

This sweet crib quilt was made for an October arrival! I like how different fabrics have been intertwined to create basic squares, with sashing bringing them all together. The 'framing' fabric around the squares is carried to the backing. Very creative!!!

Lydia's Quilt

This is the fastest way to make a quilt yet! I bought a set of twin bed sheets (pillowcase, fitted and flat sheets in a package), a single flat sheet to contrast, and then put the two flats together (leafy one is the top sheet) (pink one is the flat $5. one, for the bottom).... and quilted it with this fun 'playful kittens' pattern. If you look closely, there are two kittens reaching for balls all throughout the design. She loves it!!! Very, very simple!!

Rochelle's Melanie Quilt

This is a very cute and simple girly quilt. Once again, the 'strip quilting' has been used, and then the sashing, along with the borders around the individual block make for a really fun, easy quilt. Good job, Rochelle!

Melissa's Planet Quilt

Posted by PicasaI loved the simplicity of this quilt! A simple 'log cabin' design, putting them side by side with the greens touching and forming the sashing down the middle. She completed the quilt with a full green on the two remaining sides, forming the 'frame' of the quilt. Good job, Melissa!!

Kayci's Preschool Teacher's Quilt

Posted by PicasaVery fun quilt! As the blocks were so detailed, I wanted the quilting to accent and not dominate. We tried to bring out the individual children and their handprints, so this required a lot of individual detailing. I loved the end result!! Good job, Kayci!!!

Dixie's 'Eagle' Quilt

Posted by PicasaThis was my first 'multiple designs' quilting. How exciting!! Notice the detail that has gone into the center square, with the two Eagles in flight. The top picture shows the full quilt, with the pattern carrying through with Eagles in the two bottom corners as well. What sacred trust for something so honorable as an Eagle Scout!! Thank you, Dixie!!

Rochelle's Zoo Quilt

What a fun little boy quilt! I like how she's used alternating colors on the sides of the center block, creating almost a 'windmill' effect at the corners, also a 'weaved' look. The backing was creative as well, utilizing a variation with multiple pieces of 'zoo animals'. Good job!Posted by Picasa

Kayci's BYU Quilt

This was a fun one to quilt. The simplicity of the block design made the contrasting color of the quilting really jump out on the fabrics. Excellent job, Kayci!!
(Quilted in 'stars and loops') Posted by Picasa

Melissa's Quilt

I love how she used three simple strips, and turned them directionally to form the pattern of the quilt. This is a very quick pattern, as you can actually make three extra long strips, sew them lengthwise, then go back and cut them to actual block size. Very nice!!
(Quilted in the 'flutterby' pattern.) Posted by Picasa

Jessi's Quilt

I like how Jessi created the 'cage' effect on the front with how she used her brown colors and then the long sashing between the blocks, bringing the front and back pieces together. Nicely done!!

Fun with Scraps!!

I had lots of "quilted" squares left from various quilts, and felt like sewing, so I put together this fun little quilt. I love the textures that go into the 'rag' quilts....so one side is 'ragged' and the other is smooth. Double click on the pictures, and I've tried to show the detailing....Posted by Picasa

June & July

Gosh, where did these months go? I quilted, but didn't get them uploaded. Sorry all! I will group them all in August. Thanks for sewing, and for sending them to be quilted!! Enjoy!
